Literature Text

To love is to admit to change,
To prepare one's heart to break,
To live with no regrets, to laugh,
To give more than to take.

There is no cruel, unjust demand
To worship, love and serve
In return for all you give, yourself,
Whatever you deserve.

But to love, I will remind you,
Is also to prepare
For brokenness and loneliness
When love's no longer there.

For all do change and move away
And leave the heart forsaken.
But to love is to refuse regret
For the road that has been taken.

For all have loved and lost, but who
Would think a broken heart
A reason not to love again?
'Tis rather a new start.

'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than to have never loved at all.
Why not prepare oneself to love
And gladly take the fall?

There is nothing like real love
To make and break a soul.
I will live and laugh and lose
And make real love my goal.
A poem I wrote on leaving my high school friends. It's especially appropriate now since I am leaving in three days of this post to go to college, away from everyone I have known.
I entered high school having lost many friends, but one thing God taught me is that yeah, I may lose some friends, but that's no reason not to get attached. People are worth loving. And though my heart is broken again from having to leave my friends and family, I will continue to love fiercely and refuse to regret any of it.
