Literature Text

Once I held you far from me,
Embracing fear and trusting doubt.
Every knight must prove his worth;
Your honor's what I dreamed about.
You spoke a word or acted well--
You listened and your honor stood.
'Twas you I tested: once you said
You'd love me if you could.
You meant it: now I understand.
I held you off, afraid;
Disheartened, then, I wanted
To undo the choice I made.
But you loved me, and you meant it;
Saw through my cautious mask.
You suffer through my testing;
You do everything I ask.
But I see it now: you meant it.
I'm a fool in all my fear.
You've more than proven love to me;
Your worth is all right here.
I love you for your faithfulness.
You're worthy; I have seen it.
I'm letting go my fear of you.
I love you, and I mean it.
I'm rather foolish to not only require my dear friends to prove themselves trustworthy before I let them in, but to do it to God too. It's wise to be cautious, but caution can be taken too far. God should never have to prove anything to me. And those who have already proven themselves worthy of love and trust shouldn't either.

I just have one thing to say to this--'amen'.
